Mankind and his history is the pivotal point in Herlinde Koelbls oeuvre. Her look at German living rooms and bedrooms, at clothes and hair as an expression of the exterior with regard to the interior, and her long-term study of the traces left by life with and in the political world bear witness to this. Koelbl uses photography as her preferred medium. Through the objective camera eye, she captures very subjective and personal moments in a sensitive way. Long research for a series of works and accompanying interviews with the depicted precede her photographs. The documentary character with a close-to-life and sensitive description of her works makes her a chronicler of our time.
