Now that the measures to contain the pandemic have finally been relaxed again, the exhibition title “Der Zauberberg”, in reference to the novel of the same name by Thomas Mann, reminds us, among other things, that the past phase of segregation and self-imposed isolation was a formative experience for every individual. On the other hand, the term also refers to the magic that creativity can unfold.

The Galerie von Braunbehrens is pleased to present a harmonious combination of works by the artist Holger Kurt Jäger and the sculptor Birgid Helmy on its “The Zauberberg”. Despite different media and methods, they create and stage their fictional individuals with similar humour. The works pose questions about the self and the collective identity, about authenticity and individuality, about external appearances and the inner processes and emotions.
